Digital Marketing Associate (Freelance)

We are looking for a freelance Digital Marketing Associate to join our small and dynamic team to help us communicate more effectively with our target audiences, help us run the organisation, learn and develop with us. Reports to: 1DegreeEast Creative Director and Director


Location: Flexible. At 1DegreeEast Office, Quarterhouse, Floor 3, Office 7, Mill Bay, Folkestone, CT20 1BN and working from home.


Job purpose

To deliver the marketing and communications strategy for 1DegreeEast, communicating the mission and vision of the organisation to diverse audiences, artists, partners and other stakeholders using a number of digital marketing tools, as well as assisting with some administrative duties


Key duties

  • Improve and keep the 1DegreeEast website up to date at all times with clear and concise copy and consistent language, alongside vibrant images and video. 

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive mailing list for the organisation that includes all partners, funders, artists and other stakeholders.

  • Draft monthly newsletters that showcase the breadth and wealth of the creative output of the organisation and its associate artists and producers.

  • Use the social media platforms of the organisation to their full potential and effectively to reach new audiences and engage more meaningfully with existing ones.

  • Safeguard and become a 1DegreeEast brand champion, ensuring that all marketing materials adhere to the organisation’s brand guidelines. 

  • Support public relations and press activity, and draft and distribute press releases when required.

  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations as requested by the Creative Director and Director. 

  • Promote the 1DegreeEast programme of events and assist with their documentation.

  • Undertake some administrative duties and any other reasonable duties as delegated by the 1DegreeEast directors 

  • Be an active member of the team engaging in the developments of the organisation.

  • Act responsibly with confidential information.

  • Contribute to agreeing and setting deadlines and ensuring they are met.


Person specification

  1. A marketing/arts professional with a relevant experience and a strong interest in reaching diverse audiences, using digital tools.

  2. Successful track record in delivering effective digital marketing campaigns with limited resources. 

  3. An interest in contemporary performing arts and enthusiasm to learn more about this sector.

  4. Ability to work on own initiative and to seek support when necessary.

  5. Experience of creating and delivering innovative social media campaigns.

  6. Skills in graphic design, image and video editing.

  7. Excellent communications and IT skills, with attention to detail.

  8. Excellent copywriting and proof reading skills.

  9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  10. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to people at all levels.

Terms and Conditions

This is a freelance, part-time opportunity, 1 day per week (1DegreeEast supports Smart and flexible working). 


Fee: £150 per day.  The freelancer will be responsible for their own tax and NI contributions.
